WORKSHOP ON “TAXONOMY OF FRESHWATER ALGAE”
7th to 12th MAY, 2012
Krishnamurthy Institute of Algology, Chennai, intends to conduct a “Workshop on Taxonomy of Freshwater Algae”, from Monday, 7th May, 2012 to Saturday, 12th, May, 2012 at the Centre of Advanced Study in Botany, University of Madras, Guindy Campus, Chennai, TamilNadu.
The course content will include, lectures on classification of fresh water algae, identification of algae with the help of generic and specific keys for various classes, orders and families of freshwater algae, writing a paper on taxonomy, describing new taxa, citation of authors, rules of nomenclature pertaining to this, type materials, their location and some simple procedures of handling algal materials.
Practical work involved in taxonomic study of fresh collections of algae and algae preserved in various forms and methods of illustrating algae will be carried out under supervision of eminent algologists. The participants will be trained in the writing of a taxonomic paper.
Admission to the workshop is by selection from among the applicants and limited to fifteen.
Applications for admission to the workshop should be made in the prescribed form and should be received by the Director, Krishnamurthy Institute of Algology, before 31st March, 2012. Late applications cannot be accepted.
Registration fee for the workshop is Rs. 10,000/-(Rupees ten thousand) only and should be sent after receiving intimation of selection.
Registration fee includes breakfast and lunch on all days of workshop. Selected participants have to bear their travel expenses, accommodation and cost of their dinner. Participants should also make their own arrangements for accommodation.
